Does ADT Work with Google Home And Amazon Alexa?

It’s no secret ADT has safeguarded families for over 150 years, but you may question if this revered name in residential security can offer the modern convenience of voice activation. The answer is an absolute yes! ADT does work with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, and there’s quite a bit you can control. See what’s possible and find tips for adding voice commands into your new home security system.

Here’s What Voice Control Can Do In Your Jacksonville Home

Now that you know you can use your ADT home security with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, you’re probably curious as to what you can do. Here are some ideas:

  • Arm and disarm your system
  • Adjust smart lights
  • Control connected smart locks
  • Manage thermostat settings

If you have your hands full with kids, dinner, or groceries, and need a fast way to switch on a light or change the temperature, just speak a command. It’s a breeze and allows you to manage your system without grabbing your phone or using the touchscreen panel.

Control Your ADT Components With These Voice Commands

A short spoken command is all you need to operate your integrated ADT devices. One thing to note, When controlling a specific device, like your bedroom light or front door lock, you must use the same name you used when originally installing the device.

Here are several commands you can use with Google Home:

  • Hey Google, arm my system stay.
  • Hey Google, arm my system away.
  • Hey Google, lock the (door name).
  • Hey Google, turn off the (light name).
  • Hey Google, set the thermostat to 68 degrees.

Amazon Alexa has slightly different commands, but it functions pretty much the same. Here are some common ones:

  • Alexa, arm ADT in away mode
  • Alexa, disarm ADT
  • Alexa, turn on the (light name).
  • Alexa, [[lock the (door name)]].
  • Alexa, set the (thermostat name) to 70 degrees.

You can also ask your smart speaker questions. You may want to know if your back door is locked or the current temperature setting. Just speak a phrase like, “Alexa, what is my thermostat set to?” and you’ll receive a reply.

Are There Limits To What Voice Commands Can Do?

Smart speaker integration comes with a few restrictions. To illustrate, you can’t adjust settings in your ADT smartphone app by speaking a voice command. You’ll also have to provide a PIN number when completing sensitive actions, such as disarming your alarm system or unlocking a door.

How To Configure Voice Activation In Your Jacksonville Home

Setting up voice activation only takes a few steps regardless of the smart speaker you own. You’ll typically follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home or Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone
  2. In Google, go to Devices or press the Add (+) icon and choose Works with Google Home. In the Alexa app, touch the menu, then select Skills & Games.
